Man United tracking Mile Svilar as they search for Onana’s replacement

Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on AS Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar who could be on his way out this summer.

The 25-year-old first rose onto the scene as a teenager during his early years at Benfica, but he has been developing his game in the Italian capital since 2022.

The Serbian initially arrived as a backup for the experienced Rui Patricio, but Jose Mourinho eventually decided to cast his compatriot aside in favour of the youngster custodian. The Special One was so impressed with Svilar’s exploits with the Giallorossi that he described him as a ‘beastly boy’ and an ‘ absolute phenomenon’.

At the moment, the Anderlecht youth product is finding himself at a career crossroads, with his entourage negotiating a contract extension with Roma.

According to La Repubblica via TuttoMercatoWeb, the goalkeeper is requesting a salary of €4 million, including bonuses. While the Serie A giants are absolutely delighted with the shot-stopper’s displays, it remains to be seen if they’re willing to satisfy his demands.

The source adds that regardless of whether Svilar renews his Roma contract or not, a summer exit could be looming on the horizon, especially with a host of suitors vying for his services, including Man Utd.

The Red Devils are determined to find a new goalkeeper as Andre Onana’s recurring howlers have become intolerable.

However, United would have to prevail in a race that includes other European giants, including Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester City. These clubs are also seeking a new custodian for one reason or another.

Based on his superb displays for Roma over the past two campaigns, Svilar would represent an upgrade on Onana for sure. Nevertheless, the Red Devils are also pursuing other candidates for the role, including Burnley’s James Trafford and Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen.
