Man Utd considering adding Jose Mourinho again

The ability of Ruben Amorim to stay at Manchester United rests on the result in the Europa League final.

Even then, it may not be enough, as reports suggest that INEOS is already looking to move on from the Portuguese manager.

In football, anything is possible. It is a sport that can be just as unpredictable on the business side of things as it is on the pitch at times. Reunions are often a part of the whirlwind of activity that occurs. Seeing as the Reds are very familiar and comfortable with reintroducing themselves to faces from the past. An additional past figure could be returning to Old Trafford soon.

Love him, hate him; there isn’t too much in between. Many supporters love Jose Mourinho’s style. He has accomplished a lot. The ‘chosen one’ comes with his fair share of critics. Currently finishing up his stint at Fenerbahçe, it’s known that the gaffer will be looking for a new club this summer.

By all accounts, he’s still one of the top people in the world that any side could land to be in charge. For how everything ended when he was at Man Utd, the fan base would certainly be willing to trade their past Premier League campaigns for how the recent ones have fared.

It is a working assumption that United would even want to let go of Amorim. The current MUFC boss has criticized his own current lack of results. And he knows as well as anyone that the writing may very well be on the wall.

Winning the UEL trophy is non-negotiable. There has to be something that he can point to that is an indicator that he is the right man for the job. His predecessor, Erik ten Hag, after all, won silverware. Dismal EPL standings is ultimately what did him in. This resulted in Ruud van Nistelrooy taking over after an eighth-place finish in 2024 and being in 14th at the time.

Although, if being true to history, many Man Utd supporters would have been fine after the 2023-2024 campaign had the Dutchman been sacked at that point. Ultimately, at this club, competing in the league has to be what matters most.

Rock bottom at Man Utd needs to be corrected

Yes, the standard has fallen since Sir Alex Ferguson left, but to not be remotely within striking distance of winning the Prem and not in any discussion surrounding being a potential challenger to Liverpool next season is a disgrace.

It’s unknown what will come at this point. Amorim will need to find a way, by any means necessary, to earn more points per EPL fixture. Because of the current run, a win against Tottenham may not even be enough. If Sir Jim Ratcliffe ends up deciding to move on, Mourinho would be something of a fitting match.

Particularly with an increase in Champions League allotment for England, Mourinho being in charge would ensure being in the top European competition without needing to win a separate trophy. The additional piece of silverware would only be a nice bonus for Man Utd.
