Man Utd have golden opportunity to sign Jamie Gittens after exit request

Manchester United now have the opportunity to sign Jamie Gittens who has reportedly asked to leave Borussia Dortmund.

The 20-year-old spent his formative years in the academies of Chelsea, Reading and Manchester United, before following in the footsteps of his compatriots Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham by signing for Borussia Dortmund at a tender age.

The youngster joined the Bundesliga giants in 2020 and has been a member of the senior squad since 2022. But this season, the winger has cemented himself as a regular starter, whether under the guidance of former manager Nuri Sahin, or current boss Nico Kovac.

Gittens has thus far contributed with 12 goals and four assists this season. He has particularly impressed with his sensational dribbling skills, with stats suggesting he’s only behind Lamine Yamal in terms of successful dribbles in Europe’s Top Five Leagues.

According to Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg, the England U21 international has asked to leave BVB in the summer, especially with the club likely to miss out on Champions League football next season (they currently sit 8th in the Bundesliga table).

“Jamie Gittens wants to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer. BVB have been informed of his desire to move and internally expect him to leave,” posted the transfer market expert on his X account.

“FC Bayern still have Gittens on their list. He also has a market in England, and a return to the Premier League appeals to him.”

Therefore, this could be Man United’s golden opportunity to lure the exciting youngster to Old Trafford. Gittens primarily plays on the left wing, so he could be the perfect foil for Amad Diallo who usually operates on the right wing.

It should be noted that Fichajes.net had already linked Gittens with a move to Man Utd, but revealed a transfer fee of £62 million might be required to strike an agreement with Dortmund. Moreover, the source identified Chelsea as a direct competitor on this front.
