Man Utd join the race for coveted Porto striker Samu Aghehowa

Manchester United have reportedly joined the fray for up-and-coming Porto striker Samu Aghehowa who could be on the move again next summer.

The 20-year-old rose to prominence last season while on loan at Alaves, but Atletico Madrid immediately decided to cash in on his services. The youngster was heavily linked with a transfer to Chelsea, but it never materialised.

In the end, the Spaniard ended up joining Porto who purchased 50% of his contract for €15 million and have the option to buy another 15% for an additional €5 million either next summer or in 2026.

The Dragao have also built a wall around their prized asset, as his contract includes a €100 million release clause. This gives the Portuguese giants a stronger leverage when negotiating the player’s sale, even though he wouldn’t necessarily command this hefty figure.

According to CaughtOffside, Barcelona and Man United are both keeping close tabs on the young Spanish bomber.

The report explains how Barca wonderkid Lamine Yamal has been personally pushing for the signing of his international teammate, who would become the longtime heir to the ageing Robert Lewandowski.

Nevertheless, Man Utd are prepared to squash the 17-year-old’s hopes but luring Aghehow to Old Trafford. As the source explains, the Porto man is a profile admired by Ruben Amorim, who is desperate for a top-notch centre-forward for next season.

This term, Joshua Zirkzee has managed to win the affection of the Red Army, but his goalscoring stats have been mediocre to say the least. As for Rasmus Hojlund, he has only managed to end an agonising 21-match drought in his last appearance against Leicester.

In the meantime, United continue to be linked with a host of strikers, including Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Nevertheless, Aghehowa represents an exciting alternative, although a pricey one, especially if a bidding war involving the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Tottenham and West Ham United were to ensue.
