Man Utd make plans to meet Alphonso Davies in January
Despite being made ‘aware’ that his preference is to stay with Bayern Munich, Manchester United are pulling out all the stops to try and sway Alphonso Davies towards Old Trafford.
The ‘unbelievable’ fullback has been at the centre of longstanding speculation over his future ever since he entered the final 12 months of his contract with Bayern.
Reports had already suggested last year that Real Madrid were adamant about bringing him on board but would rather wait until he became a free agent than fork out any costly fee set by the Bundesliga giants.
Recently, Barcelona were also said to be mulling over a deal, with Hansi Flick keen on reuniting with his former protegee and making him an integral part of his project at the Camp Nou.
Nothing is signed nor sealed regarding Davies’ next move, though the most recent murmurings suggest he is indeed leaning towards extending his stay if his salary demands are met. Florian Plettenberg revealed yesterday that there had been ‘significant progress’ made between the club and player, though he has made ‘significant concessions’ to the board. As such, further ‘crucial talks’ are expected to take place in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

United haven’t accepted defeat yet, however. German football expert Christian Falk claimed last night that the Red Devils ‘have asked Davies and his manager for a meeting in January’ when he is then able to sign a pre-agreement with any interested foreign clubs.
Falk adds that Bayern have not yet responded to the 24-year-old’s outlined demands of a €16 million salary plus a €15m signing fee. Given the amount they’ve shelled out in recent years, fans wouldn’t be surprised if United were first in line to pay over the odds.
Davies has accumulated 214 appearances for the Bavarian outfit since signing from the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2018, scoring 11 goals and assisting a further 34 in that time.
