Man Utd set to regain Altay Bayindir; His fitness levels gone up ‘massively’

Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim is set to welcome Altay Bayindir back to the fold after almost two months on the sidelines.

The Turkiye international has been serving as Andre Onana’s understudy, so he only made six appearances this season, half of them in the Carabao Cup. His most memorable outing was in the FA Cup third round when his heroics played an instrumental role in the Red Devils’ victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, with Mikel Arteta hailing his ‘oustanding’ performance.

However, the 26-year-old has been out of action since early February, leaving Amorim with a depleted goalkeeping department, especially with third-choice custodian Tom Heaten also ruled out of action.

But according to Man Utd insider ‘Sully’, Bayindir has been making leaps and bounds on the training ground, which suggests his return to the matchday squad could be imminent.

“Altay returned to grass training last week and he has been making good recovery in recent weeks. His fitness levels have gone up massively and hes been focusing on strength and rehab work,” posted the journalist on his X account.

Sully also provided updates on the club’s other injured players, reiterating that Harry Maguire could be the first to return to the lineup. The big defender has already resumed grass training on Monday alongside fellow England international Kobbie Mainoo.

For his part, Luke Shaw has been on the training ground since last week, but he still has some rehab work to do before returning to selection. Leny Yoro is showing positive signs, but it remains unclear whether he resumed grass training or not.

Amad Diallo is expected to return to group training starting next month, while Johny Evans remains slightly behind. Finally, Ayden Heaven has avoided a serious injury, but he could be ruled out of action for a few weeks.
