Man Utd to scout Luke Shaw successors in January window
Manchester United will enter the January window with hopes of acquiring a long-term replacement for Luke Shaw.
The news will come as no surprise to fans after it was confirmed on Tuesday that Shaw had suffered yet another injury setback, ruling him out of action for a ‘few weeks’.
His last club start came a whopping 10 months ago in a Premier League clash away to Luton Town, during which he featured for 45 minutes before being hooked at half-time for the second straight game. It was then revealed that the defender had been struggling with a muscle injury, and he proceeded to miss the remainder of the season.
Shaw did manage to reach full fitness over the summer in time to feature for England in the last three matches of their Euro 2024 campaign. He came off the bench in the quarters and semi-final before playing the entirety of the Three Lions’ 2-1 defeat to Spain on July 14. Upon his return to Carrington to begin pre-season training, the club announced he would miss the beginning of 2024/2025 with a newly suffered issue.
United have already shortlisted a handful of potential Shaw replacements
Alas, Ruben Amorim has been able to utilise Shaw for a total of 98 minutes since taking the reins. His only three appearances were half-hour cameos against Ipswich Town, Bodø/Glimt and Everton, and it now remains to be seen when he will be available for selection again.
United have long been linked with a host of left-back options to succeed the 29-year-old, yet opted to sign natural right-back Noussair Mazraoui in the summer window instead. Tyrell Malacia is now back involved with the first team, though time will only tell if he can be relied upon throughout the course of the term.
The likes of Theo Hernandez, Milos Kerkez and Alphonso Davies are all thought to be of interest to INEOS’ transfer chiefs, with the latter reportedly leaning towards a contract extension with Bayern Munich.
