Manchester United outcasts Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood could end up reuniting at Olympique Marseille by the end of the month.
The 27-year-old striker has been desperate to find himself a new club in January after being completely omitted from the squad on the orders of his head coach Ruben Amorim. The Englishman has only made the matchday squad once in the last month, but didn’t feature for a single minute.
Hence, Rashford is on the lookout for a new club, but has yet to find any luck in his foray. The England international appeared to be close to sealing a transfer to AC Milan, but the move collapsed in recent days, with the Serie A giants now leaning towards signing his compatriot Kyle Walker who would thus occupy the solitary transfer spot allocated for UK players.
And while Barcelona remains Rashford’s ultimate dream, it remains a far-fetched deal, as the Blaugrana must first offload some of their players to make room for the attacker on their wage bill and avoid additional FFP woes.
Marseille interested in signing Marcus Rashford
So according to L’Equipe, Marseille has now emerged as a possible destination for the wantaway star. This would set up a sensational reunion with fellow Man Utd academy product Mason Greenwood.
The latter joined Roberto De Zerbi’s squad last summer as Man Utd wanted nothing to do with the player, even though the charges of attempted rape and assault against him were dropped.
The winger has now established himself as a staple at the Velodrome, and has already scored 12 goals this season. Therefore, Rashford could be tempted by his former teammate’s success, so could be persuaded to land in Southern France in an attempt to revive his playing career.
The source adds that OM are also keeping an eye on Bayern Munich youngster Mathys Tel as an alternative option.
