Matheus Cunha’s transfer to Manchester United now seems to be a case of when rather than if.
The Red Devils have stepped up their pursuit of Cunha in recent weeks as he prepares to oversee what looks almost certain to be his final two fixtures for Wolverhampton Wanderers.
One report from the player’s native Brazil claimed yesterday that Arsenal had attempted to hijack his Old Trafford move, which proved to be a complete waste of their time, given Cunha only has eyes for United.
Cunha preparing for Wolves exit after two years

Back in February, the Wolves talisman put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year contract extension to extend his stay at the club to 2029, granting the Molineux faithful some hope that he’d stay beyond the current campaign despite garnering widespread transfer interest.
However, Cunha seemingly only did so to have a £62.5 million release clause added to his contract that will become active at the end of the term. It allows him to complete his desired move away as soon as the buyout fee is met, while also ensuring Wolves have the funds they need to acquire his successor/s.
How Cunha has fared this season
This season, the 25-year-old has been a standout performer in the Premier League after notching 15 goals and six assists. His prolific attacking efforts have proven influential in Wolves retaining their top-flight status following a turbulent start to the campaign.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Tuesday night that the deal between United and Cunha was at ‘advanced stages’. Talks are ‘ongoing’ and there are ‘positive feelings on both sides’ that an agreement can be reached. As such, you can’t imagine that personal terms will be difficult to arrange.
As well as the ex-Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig whiz, the Reds have made Liam Delap their first-choice centre-forward target.
