NAWOJ Anambra Chapter Marks 2025 Women’s Day In Grand Style

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra State Chapter, in collaboration with the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo has commemorated the 2025 Women’s Day with a strong call for women to actively support and uplift one another.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the event held at the Dr. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, with the theme “Accelerate Action for Gender Equality” and sub-theme, “Projecting Anambra Women Achievers: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow”, brought together women from diverse backgrounds and emphasized the importance of empowering women and the girl child to ensure their voices are heard in today’s society.

In her opening remarks, the Chairperson of NAWOJ Anambra State, Comrade Tochukwu Ifejika, underscored the vital role of women in reshaping society, advocating for women to be given equal opportunities to occupy well-deserved positions in various sectors.

The state Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, while speaking said the celebration served as a platform to inspire and encourage women to strive for excellence while fostering unity and support among themselves.

Chairman on the occasion and Acting Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Professor Kate Omenugha, alongside the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu urged women to ensure that no woman or girl child is left behind, stressing the need for deliberate efforts in supporting and amplifying female voices.

The event featured recognition of outstanding women, both living and deceased, who have made significant contributions in various fields, including the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, former Governor of Anambra State, Dame Virgy Etiaba, Professor Chinyere Okunna, the late Professor Dora Akunyili, among others.
