The just-concluded 2025 NBBF Zenith Women Basketball Super Eight has been hailed as one of the most successful editions of the competition, with stakeholders paying glowing tributes to sponsors, officials, and players who made the event memorable.
Chairperson of the competition, Perpetua Nkeiruka Clement, expressed gratitude to Zenith Bank for its continued investment in women’s basketball, describing the financial institution as the backbone of the championship.
She particularly praised the Managing Director/CEO of Zenith Bank, Dame Adora Umeoji, for her “unwavering support and commitment to women’s sports development in Nigeria.”
The tournament, which brought together the nation’s top female basketball teams in a week-long battle for supremacy, witnessed thrilling encounters, high-level officiating, and strong fan engagement.
Clement commended the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Engineer Musa Kida, for his leadership and for sustaining a robust partnership between the federation and Zenith Bank.
She also lauded the contributions of match commissioners, referees, statisticians, and table officials, noting that their professionalism guaranteed smooth and fair competition throughout the Super Eight.
In addition, the organizing committee members — including Victor Okoro, Coach Yankee, Dr. Chollom Lomak, and Silifa Mohammed — received recognition for their dedication to ensuring the seamless running of the tournament.
Clement extended special appreciation to the participating clubs, particularly the finalists, for showcasing outstanding skill and sportsmanship that underscored the steady growth of women’s basketball in the country.
She further praised the efforts of NBBF Secretary, Amina Amanchi, describing her as “a true gem” whose support was invaluable during the competition.
Reflecting on the success of the event, Clement said the 2025 edition of the Zenith Women Basketball Super Eight would be remembered as a landmark in the history of the league.
“This Final Eight will go down as one of the best ever, and I am proud to have chaired it,” she remarked.
