NEMA hosts workshop on tanker fire hazards in Jos

Jos, Plateau State – April 17, 2025 – Today, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Jos Operations Office organized a critical one-day workshop to strengthen coordination and response efforts for tanker fire hazards.
Specifically, this event addressed rising concerns, especially during the dry season.
Held at the Community and Social Development Agency in Rayfield, the workshop gathered emergency responders, law enforcement, transport unions, tanker drivers, and community leaders.

During the opening session, Mr. Adebiyi Razaq, Head of Operations at NEMA, stressed the urgent need for better awareness and preparedness.
He emphasized, “This workshop serves as a call to action for all stakeholders in disaster risk reduction and fire safety.”
Consequently, participants engaged in discussions to identify gaps in current strategies and improve inter-agency collaboration.
Furthermore, representatives from the Federal Road Safety Commission, Nigerian Red Cross Society, and Federal Fire Service delivered presentations.
Their insights covered effective fire safety measures and response protocols. Importantly, these discussions reinforced the value of a unified approach to reducing tanker fire risks.
Additionally, NEMA reaffirmed its commitment to disaster risk reduction in a post on its official X (Twitter) account.
The agency stated, “We remain focused on empowering communities and stakeholders to prevent and respond to tanker fires efficiently.”
As a result, participants left with a clearer understanding of their roles in protecting lives and property.
In conclusion, the workshop called for sustained collaboration and vigilance ahead of the dry season, when fire risks peak.
