Nigeria, U.S. move to strengthen bilateral ties in various economic sectors |

The governments of Nigeria and the United States have expressed commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation between them through various economic sectors.

Minister of Foreign Affairs,  Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, disclosed this in a statement by Alkasim Abdulkadir, his Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy, on Monday in Abuja.

According to Tuggar, the commitment is the outcome of an inaugural virtual meeting with the U.S. Deputy-Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, to discuss areas of mutual interest between Nigeria and the U.S.

“We highlighted key areas of cooperation, including energy, technology, trade, human capital development, security, religious freedom and immigration.

“Nigeria is ready to partner with the new Trump administration to foster shared goals and enhance bilateral relations,” he stated.

On Nigeria’s commitment to structured migration solutions, Tuggar pointed to initiatives such as the Technical Aide Corps (TAC), which deploys Nigerian professionals to other nations to support development efforts.

He reiterated that such programmes provide a more organised approach to migration, while benefiting both Nigeria and its international partners.

Meanwhile, Landau stated the U.S. commitment to a strong and enduring partnership with Nigeria through strengthening commercial ties, enhancing security collaboration and deepening diplomatic engagements.

The meeting which marked the first high-level engagement between Nigeria and the U.S. under the new American administration, set the stage for continued cooperation on critical global and regional issues.
