Nigeria’s Lawyer In Consul’s Murder Case In Czech Republic Drags Nigeria To UN

The Lead Counsel who represented the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the matter at the Metropolitan and High Courts in Prague (MCP), Czech Republic, in the matter of MUDr. Jiří Pasovský, Case No. 45 T 21/2004, Prof. Usman Edward M. Asu, has dragged Nigeria to the United Nations.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the United Nations Secretary-General, H.E. Antonio Guterres.
The letter was also copied to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria.
It was further copied to other intergovernmental agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, law firms, international press and media Houses.
Prof. Asu, while speaking during an interview on DDM’s “Wase Unfiltered” programme, had raised alarm, alleging that the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) is after his life.
The development came after the Nigerian government failed to pay him and the family of the killed Nigerian former Consul to the country, Mr. Michael Lekare Wayi, their dues.

In the letter, entitled “RE: The National Intelligence Agency of Nigeria: imminent, real and present threat to my life“, Prof. Asu indicted the the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the National Security Adviser (NSA) and President Tinubu.
Asu cited “continuous violations and breaches” of his rights by NIA “under the supervision of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the president”.
He wrote: “We write to bring to your notices the continuous violations and breaches of the rights of Prof. Usman E. M. ASU by the National Intelligence Agency under the supervision of the ONSA and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Some of these breaches and violations are enumerated in the article and YouTube interview which links are enclosed herewith.
“The NIA violations were first reported to the Chief of Staff to the President in 2023 and early this year, the NIA made good her threats by forcefully seizing and incarcerating Prof. Usman without due process and rewards for his constitutional rights.
“The fictitious drummed up allegations as stated under the charge which are acknowledged debt obligations to hotels (as a consequence of the pursuit of millions of USD that the Federal Republic of Nigeria owes to us for professional services provided and increasing costs and expenses) were:
“Criminal breach of Trust and Cheating contrary to Section 311 and 322 of the Penal Code Law of the Nigeria.
“The Presidency (Chief of Staff and Legal Counsel are fully aware of these breaches and violations because Prof. Usman personally wrote to the highlighting these breaches and violations and infringements that was delivered via currier and acknowledged copies received.”
Asu, therefore, noted that it is imperative that the president intervenes to:
- Prevent further abuses by the authorities including the fictitious baseless prosecution;
- Impose a cease-and-desist executive order upon the authorities to stop from any other form of abusive conduct upon Prof. Usman and his family and associates;
- Pay fully the outstanding invoices and incidental costs and expenses for professional services already rendered and accruing; and,
- Any other form of action that the Presidency may decide in lieu of the numerous unacknowledged and unresolved petitions before his office.
