NITDA DG joins global cybersecurity experts at crystal ball workshop

April 16, 2025 – Abuja, Nigeria – Kashifu Inuwa, the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), actively participated in the Crystal Ball Workshop.
Hosted by the Counter Ransomware Initiative on April 15, 2025, this pivotal event gathered leading global agencies and cybersecurity experts to tackle the rising ransomware threat in Africa.
The workshop provided a vital platform for collaboration among stakeholders committed to improving cybersecurity across the continent.

Participants engaged in discussions that emphasized sharing critical intelligence and developing best practices. This collective effort aimed to strengthen Africa’s defenses against cyber threats, particularly ransomware attacks.
Ransomware, a malicious software that encrypts data and demands payment for its release, poses a significant risk to individuals and organizations. Consequently, the Counter Ransomware Initiative seeks to lessen the impact of these attacks, thereby fostering a safer digital environment for Africa.
Inuwa highlighted the significance of international cooperation in addressing cybersecurity issues. He stated, “Collaboration among diverse stakeholders is essential in our fight against ransomware. By sharing knowledge and resources, we can devise effective strategies to safeguard our digital landscapes.”
The Crystal Ball Workshop forms part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing Africa’s cybersecurity framework. This initiative focuses on reducing vulnerabilities and improving nations’ abilities to respond to cyber incidents. Given the increasing frequency of ransomware attacks, effective cybersecurity strategies are now more crucial than ever.
As the digital landscape evolves, the insights gained during this workshop will significantly influence Africa’s cybersecurity approach in the future. NITDA and its global partners demonstrate a strong commitment to creating a secure digital environment. This, in turn, promotes economic growth and innovation across the continent.
