NNPC names Andy Odeh as spokesman

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has announced the appointment of Andy Odeh as its new Chief Corporate Communications Officer and Morenike Adewunmi as Chief Relations Officer, signaling a revamped leadership in its communications and stakeholder relations departments.

The appointments were revealed in a statement on Tuesday, two months after the resignation of former spokesman Femi Soneye.

Andy Odeh, a communications veteran with over 30 years of experience across the oil and gas, advertising, and broadcasting industries, brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.

Before joining NNPC, Odeh spent 26 years at Nigeria LNG (NLNG), where he held various leadership positions, including General Manager of External Relations and Sustainable Development.

His tenure at NLNG was marked by significant achievements, such as overseeing the company’s rebranding efforts, implementing one of Nigeria’s most effective micro-credit schemes for host communities, and introducing the NLNG Prize for Energy Reporting, which celebrates excellence in energy journalism.

Odeh is an alumnus of the University of Jos, University of Lagos, INSEAD Business School, and the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).

Morenike Adewunmi, a legal expert with over 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, joins NNPC from Shell Companies in Nigeria (SCIN).

Known for her exceptional skills in stakeholder management and advocacy, Adewunmi has navigated complex regulatory landscapes, ensuring compliance and protecting companies’ licenses to operate.

At Shell, she held prominent roles, including Regulatory Affairs Manager and Government Relations Manager, where she built strong relationships with the Presidency, ministries, and regulatory agencies.

Adewunmi is highly regarded for her leadership, emotional intelligence, and expertise in managing non-technical risks. She holds a law degree from Olabisi Onabanjo University and is a graduate of the Nigerian Law School.

NNPC stated that the appointments of Odeh and Adewunmi reflect its commitment to improving communication, fostering trust, and strengthening engagement with stakeholders as the company continues to evolve as a fully commercial energy entity.
