NSCDC Steps Up Effort Against illegal Mining Operators In Anambra

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has issued a stern warning to illegal miners operating in Anambra State, urging them to cease their activities immediately or face the full consequences of the law.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC Anambra State Commandant, issued the warning on Thursday in Awka, while delivering a goodwill message during the inauguration ceremony of the Executive Committee of the Miners Association of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter.

Extending his congratulations to the newly inaugurated executives, Commandant Maku highlighted the importance of collaboration between the Miners Association of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, and the NSCDC to protect and preserve mining sites from the activities of illegal miners.

The NSCDC boss reaffirmed the Corps’ determination to checkmate the activities of illegal miners across the state, advising those interested in mining mineral resources to obtain a license through the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development.

“Anambra State, like other states in the Federation, is endowed with mineral resources. To maximize the benefits of these resources for the Federal Government, the NSCDC is collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development to regulate legitimate mining activities and clamp down on illegal operators who are sabotaging the economy”.

Others who spoke at the event, including Engr. Henry Bolarinwa, the outgoing Anambra State Federal Mines Officer, Mr. Dele Ayanleke, the National President of the Miners Association of Nigeria (MAN), and Barr. Anthony Ifeanya, the Anambra State Commissioner of Petroleum Mineral Resources, emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration among stakeholders to ensure strict adherence to guidelines in the mining industry.
