NURTW Official Arrested for Beating Dispatch Rider to Death in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a senior member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Shamsideen Adio, for allegedly beating a dispatch rider to death following a street altercation on Lagos Island.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred Wednesday on Tapa Street after the rider was accused of scratching Adio’s vehicle. The dispute escalated violently, with Adio and some associates reportedly assaulting the rider until he collapsed.
The victim later died from his injuries, according to police sources. “The suspect has been arrested and is in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department,” one officer confirmed.
Journalist Chris Nwandu, who shared footage of the attack on social media, described Adio as notorious for similar assaults on tricycle operators in the area, alleging he had recently hospitalized another victim.
Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi was unavailable for comment at press time.
