NYSC DG Inspires Anambra Corps Members

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Nafiu, paid a landmark visit to the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South LGA, Anambra State.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the DG was warmly received by the State Coordinator, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, alongside dignitaries and camp officials.

She lauded the enthusiasm and orderly conduct of the 1,186 Corps Members—comprising 679 males and 507 females—underscoring the camp’s efficiency and expressing appreciation for the DG’s presence.

Brig. Gen. Nafiu delivered a rousing speech to the Corps Members, weaving humor into a serious charge. He highlighted the orientation programme as a foundation for fostering patriotism, discipline, and unity. Emphasizing the values enshrined in the NYSC Anthem, he urged Corps Members to embody integrity, respect host community customs, and guard their digital footprints with responsibility.

Nafiu encouraged full participation in camp lectures and the SAED (Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development) initiative, advising Corps Members to cultivate financial discipline and see their service year as a launchpad for greater national impact.

The DG celebrated Corps Members marking their birthdays with a symbolic cake-cutting, and in a lighthearted moment, had the OBS crew cue the song “Lonely at the Top,” joining in an impromptu dance session that lifted camp morale.

In a parting gesture of goodwill, Brig. Gen. Nafiu donated two cows to the camp before departing, leaving Corps Members energized by his call to serve with purpose and vision.

The event featured a colorful welcome, with a vibrant cultural presentation by Platoon 5 Corps Members spotlighting Edo traditions, earning enthusiastic applause. In his welcome address, Mr. Lot Christopher offered a succinct yet compelling biography of Brig. Gen. Nafiu, highlighting his military accomplishments and international peacekeeping experience, including previous roles with the United Nations and his current appointment as the 23rd DG of the NYSC.
