(DDM) – The Delta State government has reaffirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, and sustainable development across the state’s 25 local councils.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, defended the governor’s leadership style in response to growing political tensions and opposition criticism as the state gradually heads towards the 2027 elections.
Aniagwu insisted that Oborevwori has consistently governed as a leader for all Deltans rather than for select political blocs.
According to him, projects, appointments, and investments under the administration’s four-point agenda are equitably spread across the three senatorial districts.
The commissioner highlighted that peace, security, and reconciliation remain the pillars of Oborevwori’s governance strategy.
He noted that the governor has established reconciliation committees in various parts of the state to engage with aggrieved citizens and foster dialogue among competing interests.
DDM notes that Governor Oborevwori, who assumed office in May 2023 after serving as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, has faced both high expectations and political skepticism.
His emergence was marked by strong backing from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but opposition parties have accused him of favoritism in political appointments and project allocations.
Responding to such accusations, Aniagwu maintained that no part of the state has been sidelined.
He cited ongoing rural road projects, school rehabilitations, and poverty alleviation initiatives as evidence of the governor’s inclusive approach.
“The governor is building on the legacies of past administrations but with a unique focus on grassroots development,” Aniagwu said.
“He is determined to ensure that no LGA feels neglected, and every community has access to basic amenities.”
He further appealed to politicians to refrain from divisive rhetoric, stressing that governance should not be sacrificed for premature campaign battles.
“Rather than heating up the polity with accusations, leaders should support development efforts that benefit all Deltans,” he added.
DDM recalls that Oborevwori’s four-point agenda, popularly known as the “MORE Agenda,” emphasizes Meaningful development, Opportunities for all, Realistic reforms, and Enhanced peace and security.
The framework has guided major policy actions since 2023, including investments in rural electrification, healthcare access, and youth empowerment schemes.
Analysts say Oborevwori’s inclusive governance message is also a calculated political strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections, as he seeks to consolidate support across ethnic and political divides in the oil-rich state.
Delta’s complex ethnic composition, spanning Urhobo, Itsekiri, Ijaw, Anioma, and Isoko groups, has historically influenced election outcomes, making inclusiveness a recurring campaign theme.
The commissioner concluded that Oborevwori’s record will speak louder than opposition propaganda, insisting that the governor’s emphasis on unity and fairness places Delta on a path of peace and prosperity.
