Ogun confidently prepares for the 2024 National Sports Festival

Ogun State’s Commissioner for Sports Development, Wasiu Isiaka, confidently declared that the state’s athletes will excel under pressure as hosts of the 2024 National Sports Festival.
Known as Nigeria’s Olympic Games, the event will run from May 16 to 30, 2024, in Abeokuta and other locations.
Additionally, the commissioner emphasized the state’s readiness to deliver a memorable tournament.
The state will field a strong team of 742 athletes across multiple sports. Currently, these athletes are undergoing intensive training to ensure peak performance.
Moreover, Isiaka assured that the team will compete fairly while upholding the spirit of sportsmanship.
He stated, “We aim to host the best festival while also contending for medals.”
Furthermore, Isiaka highlighted the broader goals of the event. Beyond winning, Ogun State seeks to inspire youth engagement in sports.
He explained, “Sports teach discipline, teamwork, and resilience while offering financial opportunities.”
Consequently, the state plans to maximize the festival’s impact on young athletes.
The commissioner also reiterated Ogun State’s commitment to talent development.
After the festival, the state will maintain its sports facilities for youth empowerment. He added, “We prioritize discovering and nurturing talents for Nigeria’s future.”

Over 15,000 athletes from across Nigeria will participate in the festival.
They will compete for 2,150 medals, including 626 gold, 626 silver, and 898 bronze.
Events will feature individual and team sports, showcasing Nigeria’s athletic diversity.
