Ogun government reaffirms commitment to free education in public primary schools

(DDM) – The Ogun State Government has restated its determination to provide free, qualitative, and standardised education for pupils across public primary schools.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, made the declaration during a sensitisation programme in Ogun East Senatorial District.
The exercise was organised to create awareness on the enrolment of children into state-owned primary schools.
According to Arigbabu, the campaign is designed to tackle the growing menace of out-of-school children in the state.
He explained that the initiative seeks to enlighten parents and guardians about the government’s commitment to free and compulsory primary education.
The commissioner emphasised that Governor Dapo Abiodun has shown dedication not only to education but also to other key sectors.
He cited health, transportation, agriculture, and infrastructure as areas where the administration has equally invested heavily.
Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Oluwatosin Oloko, and other top officials, Arigbabu commended the governor’s efforts.
He assured residents that the government had put all necessary measures in place to guarantee a seamless enrolment process.
Parents were encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity and register their children at designated schools from 9 a.m. daily.
The commissioner stressed that registration and enrolment are completely free, covering all school-age children within the stipulated period.
He further revealed that the government has made provisions for nursery sessions beginning from age three.
These early classes, he explained, would be handled by qualified teachers in a conducive learning environment.
“We are sensitising parents to register their school-age children into public primary schools free of charge,” Arigbabu declared.
He reiterated that no child in Ogun should be denied access to education due to financial constraints.
During the event, several community market leaders, known as Iyalojas, applauded the commissioner’s team for its proactive approach.
The Iyaloja of Oba Sikiru Adetona Market, Oke-Aje, Mrs Wuraola Kuforiji, expressed gratitude for the government’s initiative.
Similarly, the Iyaloja of Olabisi Onabanjo Market, Ita-Osu, Mrs Oloruntedo Ogunba, praised the administration for prioritising education.
The Iyaloja of Sabo Market, Sagamu, Mrs Idowu Haruna, and the Iyaloja of Awolowo Market, Sagamu, Mrs Esther Osilesi, also commended the outreach effort.
They noted that free education would reduce the burden on parents and ensure children gain early access to learning.
Observers believe the renewed campaign could significantly reduce the number of out-of-school children in Ogun State.
Education stakeholders also argue that consistent public sensitisation is key to sustaining enrolment and improving literacy rates across the region.
The state government has insisted that education remains central to its long-term development agenda and human capital strategy.
