The 6th substantive Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie has banned public spraying of cash during ceremonies in the institution.

Dr. Awuzie who assumed office on Tuesday, February 11, also outlawed packing of cars by students in spaces meant for lecturers.
In her inaugural address during the swearing in ceremony held at the convocation arena of the institution, the new Rector said that the emerging trend of cash spraying during graduation and other ceremonies is now prohibited.
“While students are free to celebrate successful completion of final examinations in a stylish and organized manner, public throwing of wealth, display of money bouquets and similar displays in the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, will no longer be allowed,” she said, adding that her administration will establish a committee to regulate public display of wealth on campus.
The Rector also promised to implement vehicle parking regulation policy on campus; saying that students who own and use cars must park responsibly and maintain decorum.
Dr. Awuzie, who also expressed worry that academic dishonesty undermines the credibility of educational institutions and the value of education they provide, informed that henceforth, the school shall uphold the highest standard of academic integrity by enforcing strict measures against malpractice, and fostering a culture of ethical scholarship.
She also reeled out what she called her administration’s 12-points agenda, which she said she would be priotising in the administration of the institution for the next five years, including Human Resource Development, Academic Reinvention and Programme Development, Discipline, Financial Transparency, Security, Staff Welfare, Students Welfare, Anti-Cultism, among others.
Frowning on the menace of cultism in tertiary institutions today, the new boss said that cultism and its associated vices would have no place in the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, under her watch. She said that her administration will strengthen the institution’s anti-cult measures by partnering with law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders to ensure a safe, secure, and peaceful campus.
According to the new Rector, her administration would strengthen anti-cult unit, empowering it to closely monitor and combat the existence of operations of clandestine groups on campus.
On staff welfare, she assured staff of the institution that their welfare, training and professional development will be top priorities.
“We will foster an environment of inclusiveness, respect, and productivity, ensuring that every staff member finds fulfilment in his role.
“Recognizing that a satisfied workforce is essential to institutional success, our administration will work diligently to enhance staff welfare, including timely promotions, improved working conditions and comprehensive welfare packages. Every staff will be valued and motivated,” she said.
She said further that her administration is committed to upholding the legacy of excellence while pursuing the boundaries of knowledge, innovation and technological development.
While thanking President Bola Tinubu, the polytechnic’s governing council led by Chief Banarbas Gemade; Hon. Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and all those who were part of the selection process that led to her emergence 6th substantive rector of the institution, Awuzie also extended hands of collaboration to relevant stakeholders – saying that she will hardly achieve her set out objectives without joint efforts.
Stakeholders and dignitaries, including past rectors, as well as well-wishers took their turns to ulogize the new Rector, advising and praying for her for a successful tenure.
