It’s one thing for Manchester United fans to accept that Viktor Gyokeres won’t be making the move to Old Trafford this summer, but to see him potentially playing for a direct Premier League rival is a hugely frustrating prospect.
That could indeed turn out to be the case if one club is successful in their rumoured pursuit, as Arsenal have entered the race for the Sporting Lisbon talisman, who’s expected to be one of the major transfer sagas of the summer.
David Ornstein confirmed the Gunners’ interest last night via X/Twitter, claiming the side has shortlisted Gyokeres as they continue their striker search. United, Liverpool and Chelsea are also tipped to be on the market for a new No.9 in the coming months.

Alexander Isak is, unsurprisingly, garnering a lengthy list of admirers in the top flight, with Mikel Arteta deemed a ‘huge fan’ of the Newcastle United talisman.
However, it’d take an arm and a leg to prise him from Eddie Howe’s grasp, and, with the general morale around St. James’ Park and emphatic one in the aftermath of their League Cup triumph, it’s unlikely the forward will be advocating for a move away himself, either.
Gyokeres would favour Arsenal move over United for one key reason
It’s previously been reported that Gyokeres – despite his connections with Old Trafford boss Ruben Amorim – would be uninterested in signing for the Red Devils due to their current situation, in which they won’t be playing European football next season unless they win the Europa League.
Arsenal, on the other hand, are poised to seal Champions League qualification by finishing second for a third successive campaign – although if silverware is what he’s after, he might want to think twice about joining Arteta’s squad, who haven’t won a trophy since the FA Cup in 2020.
As for United’s rumoured Gyokeres alternatives, they are said to be keen on the likes of Victor Osimhen, Liam Delap and Hugo Ekitike.
