PDP Demands Tinubu Apologise Over Rivers State Emergency Rule, Cites Constitutional Overreach

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised President Bola Tinubu for what it calls an unconstitutional suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara during the six-month emergency rule, demanding a formal apology to Nigerians.
Timothy Osadolor, PDP Deputy National Youth Leader, said in Abuja that Tinubu exceeded his authority by suspending an elected governor and members of the state House of Assembly without following due legislative process. He said Tinubu’s tone in addressing governors “as if he were a headmaster” underscored a dangerous overreach.
Osadolor urged the National Assembly to legislate safeguards to prevent any future president from assuming powers beyond the Constitution. He also accused lawmakers of being influenced to ratify what he described as an “abnormally ill report.”
The emergency rule in Rivers State, declared on March 18, 2025, had seen the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy, and the state legislators. It will end as President Tinubu has lifted the state of emergency, with Fubara and the lawmakers set to resume office on September 18.
