PENGASSAN Orders Halt of Gas, Crude Supply to Dangote Refinery Over Union Dispute

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has directed its branches to immediately cut off gas and crude oil supply to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery following a dispute over workers’ union rights.

In a memo signed by General Secretary Comrade Lumumba Ighotemu Okugbawa and addressed to branch chairmen, the union accused the refinery of disengaging its members for exercising their constitutional right to unionize.

“They have gone further on a mission of misinformation and propaganda to justify this illegitimacy rather than engaging meaningfully with us to right the wrong,” the statement read.

PENGASSAN ordered that all crude oil supply valves to the refinery be shut and loading operations for vessels halted. It also instructed the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) chairman to ensure gas supply is cut off “effective immediately.”

The union urged all branch chairmen to report on the progress of the directive, warning that the refinery’s alleged actions undermine workers’ rights.

“Injury to one! Injury to all!!” the circular concluded.

The Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest single-train facility, has not yet issued an official response.
