Peter Obi Condemns Cruelty Against Female Corps Member in Anambra

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has strongly condemned the reported inhumane treatment of a young lady in Anambra State, describing the act as “primitive wickedness and savagery.”

In a statement shared on Tuesday, Obi said he was deeply concerned and heartbroken that such cruelty could take place in 2025, noting that society ought to have advanced beyond such acts.

He described the incident as “a violation of law and morality, and a direct assault on our collective humanity,” stressing that no society should tolerate the abuse and dehumanization of its citizens, particularly women and the vulnerable.

“The young girl could have been anyone’s daughter or sister,” Obi said, adding that the incident must serve as a wake-up call for society to uphold justice, compassion, and human dignity.

The former governor urged authorities to ensure that those responsible are apprehended, prosecuted, and punished to serve as a deterrent.

He also called for stronger safeguards, policies, and communal values that protect the weak and restrain the powerful.

“Our humanity must always come first. Without it, we are nothing but a people adrift in cruelty,” he stated.
