Peter Obi visits Olubadan-designate Rashidi Ladoja, pledges support for selfless leadership

(DDM) – Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has paid a courtesy visit to the Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the visit took place on Sunday, with Obi describing it as an opportunity to extend his congratulations to the incoming monarch.

Speaking during the meeting, Obi said his presence was not just about the Ibadan throne but about Nigeria’s wider quest for selfless leadership.

He emphasized that the country needed leaders committed to service and to the transformation of society, rather than those seeking glamour and personal gain.

“My visit is to congratulate him as the next 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland,” Obi stated.

“My visit is about Nigeria, about selfless leadership, leadership that is committed to turning our society around,” he added.

The Labour Party leader expressed confidence that Ladoja would bring his wealth of political and administrative experience to the throne for the benefit of Ibadanland and Nigeria at large.

Responding, Oba Rashidi Ladoja said he considered his selection as the 44th Olubadan not a call to luxury but another opportunity for service.

He noted that many Nigerians mistakenly viewed traditional leadership as a glamorous role, whereas in modern times it should be a platform for solving societal challenges.

“The time of glamour is gone,” Ladoja declared.

“In contemporary times, it is about service, what you have on the table for the people in society,” he stressed.

Beyond his forthcoming traditional responsibilities, the Olubadan-designate pledged to return to the classroom after his coronation.

He promised to take up teaching once again at his alma mater, Ibadan Boys’ High School, where he had once taught Mathematics and Physics before venturing into politics.

Ladoja made this vow when the school’s principal, Rasheed Fasasi, led a delegation of the management team on a courtesy visit to his Bodija residence.

“Beyond being an alumnus of the school, I was also a former teacher here, where I taught Mathematics and Physics,” he recalled.

“So, during my visit after the coronation, I will engage the students in classwork,” he promised.

Ladoja’s pledge has been widely welcomed as an example of humility, showing a monarch ready to combine traditional authority with educational mentorship.

Analysts note that his gesture underscores the importance of community service and practical leadership in a country often burdened by political excesses.

The visit by Obi also reinforces his long-standing reputation for celebrating leaders who prioritize service and public good over personal aggrandizement.

Observers say the interaction between the former governor of Anambra State and the incoming monarch highlights a shared belief in using leadership platforms for societal transformation.
