PHOTO: Meet the new NNPCL GCEO, Bayo Ojulari

Following the appointment of Bashir Bayo Ojulari as the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) by President Bola Tinubu, here are key details about the new head of the organization.

Ojulari hails from Kwara State in North Central Nigeria and holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Prior to his appointment, he served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy Company, the current owners of Shell Nigeria Limited.

Renaissance recently led a consortium of indigenous energy firms in acquiring the entire equity holding of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) in a $2.4 billion deal.

Ojulari began his career in the oil industry at Elf Aquitaine, where he became the first Nigerian process engineer.

In 1991, he joined Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd. as an Associate Production Technologist.

Over the years, he held various roles in Nigeria, Europe, and the Middle East, working as a petroleum process and production engineer, strategic planner, field developer, and asset manager.

In 2015, he was appointed Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO).

Additionally, he served as the Chairman and a Board of Trustees member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE Nigerian Council) and is a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

Ojulari succeeds Mele Kyari, who was appointed in July 2019 by former President Muhammadu Buhari and turned 60 on January 8, 2025.

He will work alongside NNPCL’s newly appointed board chairman, Ahmadu Musa Kida, who replaces Pius Akinyelure
