Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Killing Wife After Son’s Birthday

Tragedy struck in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, as police arrested a man identified as TJ for allegedly killing his wife, Queen.

According to eyewitnesses, the shocking incident occurred on Tuesday, September 30, shortly after the couple celebrated their two-year-old son’s birthday.

Neighbours said there was no sign of any disagreement between the couple before the night of the murder.

A resident, who spoke anonymously, said everyone in the compound went to bed peacefully after the celebration.

However, the next morning, no one saw the couple step outside, which raised concerns.

The source said, “It was their little boy who came out of the room with bloodstains on his body.

People thought he was hurt, but when they checked and saw he wasn’t injured, they rushed into the house.”

Neighbours were horrified to discover Queen lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit.

Her husband was nowhere to be found. The man reportedly fled immediately after the gruesome act.

The matter was quickly reported to the Auchi Police Division, which launched a manhunt for the suspect. The search led to TJ’s arrest days later.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, CSP Moses Yamu, said the suspect had been apprehended and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Benin for further investigation.

“The suspect has been arrested and moved to the State CID for proper investigation,” Yamu said.

He assured the public that justice would be served and that the command would not tolerate acts of domestic violence.

The incident has thrown the Auchi community into mourning, with residents calling for stronger measures to curb rising cases of domestic violence across the state.
