Police cracks down on international kidnapping ring, rescues two Ghanaians

2 May, 2025- In a major breakthrough, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has rescued two kidnapped Ghanaian citizens and dismantled a cross-border criminal network.
The Intelligence Response Team (IRT) spearheaded the operation, demonstrating the NPF’s dedication to protecting lives and fighting organized crime.
Authorities launched the investigation on April 27, 2025, after receiving a report about the abduction of Anastasia Arthur, a 48-year-old Ghanaian woman. Investigations revealed that she had been lured into a fake online romance, leading to her kidnapping.

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that technical analysis helped track the suspects. Furthermore, the IRT worked closely with Ghanaian police to uncover a syndicate operating in both countries.
A key suspect, Emeka Christian, was arrested in Ghana after admitting to receiving a ransom of 10,000 Ghanaian Cedis. He also confessed to transferring the money to Peter Okoye, a Nigerian accomplice.
On May 1, 2025, police arrested Okoye in Port Harcourt, along with two other syndicate members—Paulinus Chidokwe and Chinonso Okafor. During the raid, officers rescued Anastasia Arthur and another victim, Amaseerwaa Konadu, who had endured harsh conditions.
Medical personnel immediately attended to the freed victims, while the suspects remain under investigation. Once completed, they will face legal prosecution.
Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun praised the officers for their swift action, highlighting the NPF’s commitment to tackling transnational crime with global partners.
The police also warned the public about online scams, urging citizens to report suspicious activities. They emphasized the importance of vigilance and using official channels for reporting crimes.
This successful operation proves the NPF’s determination to uphold security within and beyond Nigeria’s borders.
