Police Kill Six Suspected Kidnappers, Recover Weapons and Charms in Abia–Akwa Ibom Raid

In a decisive operation, the Abia State Police Command neutralised six suspected kidnappers during a raid on a criminal hideout in Ikot Ukpon Village, Obot Akara LGA, Akwa Ibom State.
The raid, based on credible intelligence, aimed to dismantle the gang behind a March abduction that left three people dead.
ccording to DSP Maureen Chinaka, the police spokesperson, operatives had successfully infiltrated the hideout when members of the gang attempted a daring rescue. In the ensuing gun battle, the six suspects sustained fatal injuries while trying to flee and later died en route to the hospital. Other gang members escaped, reportedly wounded. Two police officers also sustained injuries and are now receiving medical treatment.
Recovered from the scene were two AK-47 rifles, 57 rounds of live ammunition, a locally made pistol, six magazines, and a large bag filled with objects believed to be spiritual charms.
The operation traces back to the abduction of the Director of Sobaz Oil and Gas, which also claimed the lives of ASP Tanko Naptip of the Rivers State Police Command and businessman Anayo Ukwu in March.
This latest strike underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s renewed commitment to eradicating violent crime in the region.
