The Anambra State Police Command has uncovered and shut down an illegal factory in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area, where toxic fake soft drinks were being produced under the brand “Iyi Obeleagu Juice.” Operations conducted by the Rapid Response Squad on September 3 resulted in the arrest of 48-year-old Chigozie Okafor.
Spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that the beverages were being manufactured without approval from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), posing serious health risks to both adults and children.
Police Commissioner Ikioye Orutugu has ordered a comprehensive investigation to identify and prosecute all those involved. He issued a stern warning to others who may be engaging in similar illicit activities, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting public health.
