Police Rescue Eleven Children in Anambra, Arrest Suspect

A 43-year-old Female child trafficking suspect identified as Uche Okoye has been arrested by the Anambra state police command in Nnewi, while eleven children which include five boys and six girls were rescued.
The state police command spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement made available to Galaxy news, said the rescue operation was intelligent driven and carried out by operatives attached to the criminal investigative department at the state headquarters in Awka.
According to the police, the suspect is said to be part of an interstate child stealing, abduction and trafficking syndicate terrorising the state and neighbouring south East states.
Preliminary investigation was said to have shown that the children whose ages ranges from three to six were abducted from Adamawa state and illegally driven to unsuspected members of the public seeking abduction for a fee of one million, five hundred thousand naira for the boys, and eight hundred thousand naira for the girls respectively.
The Anambra police commissioner CP Ikioye Orutugu while commending his Adamawa counterpart for the collaboration, cautioned individuals seeking to adopt children to do the necessary checks and follow legal procedures.
