Enugu, Nigeria – In a rapid and well-planned operation, police officers rescued a kidnapped man, killed one suspect, and seized a firearm along with the criminals’ getaway car.
The mission, conducted on May 3, 2025, involved teams from the Commissioner of Police’s Monitoring Unit and the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad.
According to SP Daniel Ndukwe, the police spokesperson, the kidnappers had seized the victim on May 2 inside Enugu’s Government Residential Area (GRA).
Driving a green Nissan Almeria, the gang shot randomly to cause chaos before forcing the man into their vehicle. They then took him to a hidden location.
After receiving the report, Commissioner CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa immediately deployed officers and intelligence units to rescue the victim and arrest the culprits.
Authorities traced the kidnappers to a hideout in Ngwo, where a shootout occurred.
Police overpowered the suspects, killing one and freeing the hostage.
During the operation, officers confiscated a locally made pistol loaded with two bullets from the dead suspect.
They also impounded the gang’s green Nissan Almeria. Unfortunately, the criminals had already withdrawn ₦2,250,000 from the victim’s account after demanding ₦20,000,000 in ransom.
CP Giwa praised the officers for their quick action and reiterated the police’s dedication to fighting crime in Enugu.
He ordered a manhunt for the escaped suspects and the recovery of the victim’s stolen Mercedes Jeep.
Additionally, the Commissioner urged residents to assist law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities promptly.
He assured the public that the police remain committed to maintaining safety across the state.
The Enugu State Police Command encouraged anyone with useful information to contact them immediately through official channels.
Cooperation from citizens, they stressed, is vital in preventing and solving crimes effectively.
