Pundit insists Patrick Schick would be a ‘strong option’ for Man United

Manchester United would do good to sign experienced Bayer Leverkusen attacker Patrick Schick, as one pundit argues.

The Reds are reportedly on the verge of securing an agreement with Matheus Cunha on personal terms. Negotiating a transfer with Wolves wouldn’t be an issue, as United can simply activate the Brazilian’s release clause by splashing £62.5 million.

Nevertheless, the 25-year-old is being recruited to fill in the Number 10 role alongside Amad Diallo in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation. Hence, the management is still seeking an out-and-out centre-forward who would be an upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund.

The Dane has been showing some encouraging signs in his most recent outings, but it remains too little, too late to warrant him a regular spot in next season’s lineup.

At the moment, the Red Devils are being linked with a plethora of potential candidates for the Number 9 role, including Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres, Liam Delap, as well as Jean-Philippe Mateta who has been gaining ground in recent days, if reports are to be believed.

However, football analyst and pundit Statman Dave suggests an alternative solution. He believes that Schick would be a great option for the club.

“Patrik Schick has the best goals p90 rate (1.16) of any player across Europe’s top five leagues this season,” posted the pundit on his X account. “A strong option if #MUFC want an experienced CF this summer.”

The 29-year-old is a Sparta Praha youth product who represented the likes of Sampdoria and Roma before joining Leverkusen in 2020.

The Czech striker hasn’t always been a regular starter at Xabi Alonso’s court, but he managed to fill in admirably for the injured Victor Boniface this season. He has already contributed with 25 goals and one assist in 42 appearances in all competitions.

Schick’s vast experience, notable technique and versatility might render him an excellent back-up option, but Man Utd fans would still expect a more reputable profile to spearhead the charge next season.
