Romano confirms Man Utd have made contact for Liam Delap

Manchester United are reportedly making concrete steps in their quest to land Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.

Although the Tractors are facing inevitable relegation to the Championship, the 22-year-old has been enjoying a prosperous first full campaign in the Premier League. He has thus far scored 12 goals in his 31 EPL appearances, which is no easy feat when playing for a struggling side.

Therefore, the Man City youth product has been on many clubs’ radars, including the Red Devils, who are keen to recruit at least one new striker.

INEOS will be looking to address their attacking issues in the summer, but they might be reluctant to spend astronomical figures on the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen.

Therefore, Delap represents a cheaper alternative, as Ipswich’s relegation means the value in his release clause will drop to £30 million.

In the latest video update uploaded on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano confirmed what’s been reported regarding the player’s buyout clause, while also revealing that Man Utd and Chelsea have made contact for Delap, enquiring about his availability.

Therefore, the Italian journalist insists that these two Premier League giants aren’t merely interested in the young striker, but have also made concrete steps.

Moreover, the transfer market expert reveals that Delap has also suitors in Germany, but notes that his ‘most likely destination’ is the Premier League, thus boosting the Red Devils’ chances of landing the player.

Man Utd probably feel that the Ipswich star will constitute an upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund who has been struggling for goals this season.

But it should be remembered that the Dane was also riding high on momentum before making the move from Atalanta in the summer of 2023, but found it hard to cope with the tough circumstances at Old Trafford.

Therefore, the club arguably needs a more experienced profile, one who has already proved his prowess on the big stage.
