Manchester United have reportedly received a blow in their attempts to sign Porto’s sensational teenager Rodrigo Mora.

The Red Devils have been linked with some of Portugal’s most exciting talents, as Ruben Amorim is said to be keen on luring some familiar names to Carrington.

In recent months, United missed out on Sporting CP’s Geovany Quenda who opted to join Chelsea instead.

Therefore, the Reds turned their attention to Mora, who has been described as a ‘cheeky’ player due to his deft dribbling aptitude and his strong character.

The attacking midfielder is only 17, but has already carved himself a regular starting berth at Porto. This season, he has already contributed with eight goals and three assists in 19 league fixtures.

As exclusively reported by Stretty News earlier this month, Man Utd sent their scouts to watch Mora in action in two of the Dragao’s league contests, as the club has been pondering a summer onslaught.

Nevertheless, signing the teenager could be a daunting task at this stage, as Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the player is about to tie himself to a new long-term contract with Porto that includes a sizable release clause.

“FC Porto have agreed every detail of new deal for talented 17-year-old gem Rodrigo Mora!” posted the famous Italian journalist on his X account.

“The release clause will be in the region of €70m, as he could become the future most expensive sale ever for FC Porto. The agreement is done until June 2030, to be official in May.”

While penning a new contract doesn’t entirely rule out a summer exit, Porto have done well to strengthen their leverage on Mora’s future, placing themselves in a solid position ahead of potential negotiations with other clubs.

Hence, Man Utd would only be able to secure Mora’s services by launching a hefty bid, which might be unlikely at this stage, as INEOS will be looking to enhance several departments in the summer, and spending €70m on an unproven teenager could be deemed too risky for a club that has registered immense losses over the past few years.
