Security Forces kill 12 Bandits in Katsina, Recover Rifles, cattle

The Katsina state government has confirmed the killing of 12 armed bandits during a coordinated security operation in Kurfi and Safana LGAs on Wednesday.
Nasir Mu’azu, commissioner for internal security and home affairs, disclosed the development in a statement made available to journalists in Katsina.
Mu’azu said the operation followed early morning intelligence reports about bandit activities threatening residents in the area.
According to him, the attackers had stormed Rahamawa village in Kuraye district of Charanchi LGA around 5:40 am, where they seriously injured a 60-year-old resident, Alhaji Danmalam, and rustled 22 cattle.
He said a joint response team comprising personnel of the police, army, community watch corps, and local vigilantes tracked the assailants to Dutsen Falale, a known hideout between Kurfi and Safana.
A gun battle ensued, leading to the neutralization of 12 bandits and the recovery of five AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and all 22 rustled cattle.
While hailing the outcome of the operation, the commissioner confirmed that one vigilante lost his life, and a soldier sustained injuries during the confrontation.
He also announced the death of Alhaji Danmalam, who succumbed to his injuries at the Primary Healthcare Centre in Charanchi.
“While celebrating this decisive victory against criminal elements, we mourn the loss of one brave vigilante who paid the ultimate price defending his community,” Mu’azu said.
He added that the injured soldier was receiving medical attention.
Mu’azu, speaking on behalf of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda and the people of Katsina state, extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the repose of the deceased souls.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to securing lives and property, assuring the public that investigations are ongoing and further updates will be provided.
