Senator Ekwunife lashes Soludo, alleges foul odour and failed governance

(DDM) – The political atmosphere in Anambra State has been thrown into heated controversy after Senator Uche Ekwunife, the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, launched a direct verbal attack on Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the Senator, in a widely circulated video, not only questioned the governor’s academic integrity but also accused him of having foul breath and body odour.

Her remarks have since sparked widespread reactions, highlighting the deepening divisions within the political class in Anambra ahead of the next electoral cycle.

In the video, Ekwunife dismissed Soludo’s allegations that she obtained her doctorate degree from an unaccredited university in the United States.

She insisted that her academic background was verifiable across several Nigerian universities, adding that she had nothing to hide.

According to her, she earned her first degree at the University of Calabar before proceeding to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, where she obtained her master’s degree.

She further explained that these qualifications laid the foundation for her doctorate, which she described as authentic and legitimate.

Ekwunife went further to challenge the governor to pursue his claims in court if he truly believed her doctorate was fraudulent.

“Go to court if you claim my PhD certificate is fake,” she declared.

The Senator also took aim at Soludo’s academic credentials, insisting that his much-referenced professorship was questionable and limited in scope.

She alleged that his recognition was merely departmental and not globally respected, describing it as a “local award” rather than a universally acknowledged title.

Turning to governance, Ekwunife criticized Soludo’s leadership style and accused him of failing to improve the lives of Anambra residents.

She claimed the state was safer and more peaceful before he assumed office, alleging that insecurity and killings have now taken root under his watch.

According to her, the once-thriving Anambra that attracted visitors and investors has now become a place where fear drives people away every Thursday.

“All the bushes in Anambra are full of people’s corpses,” she said, painting a grim picture of the security challenges facing the state.

She further alleged that Governor Soludo had been imposed on the people of Anambra by former Governor Willie Obiano, despite his earlier failed attempts at governorship.

Her remarks escalated beyond politics when she began to attack the governor’s personal hygiene in harsh terms.

Speaking partly in Igbo, she described Soludo as “the dirtiest governor in the whole of Africa.”

She accused him of having “a smelling mouth” and “terrible body odour,” going as far as to advise his wife to purchase deodorant for him.

“When you open your mouth to speak, the odour that comes out is so stinking and embarrassing for a governor,” she stated bluntly.

She continued, “You smell, your armpits smell. Tell your wife to get you deodorant, when you bathe apply it to your armpits so you can be like your fellow men.”

These biting remarks have already stirred heated debate among political watchers, with some condemning her choice of words while others argue it reflects the growing frustration with Soludo’s administration.

Observers note that Anambra politics has historically been contentious, with rival factions using both policy criticisms and personal attacks to weaken opponents.

Governor Soludo, a former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor and globally recognized economist, had entered office with promises of transformation and sustainable development.

However, his tenure has faced increasing criticism, particularly over insecurity and economic stagnation, issues his opponents now leverage against him.

Ekwunife’s latest outburst is seen as part of a broader strategy by the APC to weaken Soludo’s influence in the state, where he remains a key political figure under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Analysts believe the exchange underscores the rising tensions ahead of the next governorship elections in Anambra.

While Soludo has not officially responded to the personal accusations, his camp has in the past dismissed such attacks as distractions from opposition elements who fear his growing influence.

For now, the verbal clash has added fresh drama to an already charged political landscape in Anambra, leaving residents and political observers to speculate on how far both sides are willing to go.
