Several feared trapped as building collapses in Lagos

A multi-storey building situated on Oremeta Street in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State collapsed on Saturday, April 19, leaving an unknown number of individuals trapped under the rubble.
The structure, which was reportedly still under construction, housed the popular EqualRight Restaurant.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 8 a.m., catching both occupants and passersby off guard.

“Anyone familiar with that structure would agree it was a ticking time bomb. I rarely bought food there because I always feared it might come down while I was inside,” the eyewitness said.
“At the moment, we can’t confirm the number of people trapped, but emergency services have commenced rescue efforts.”
The source added that personnel from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) are already on site, actively working to rescue those still buried under the debris, while awaiting support from other relevant agencies.
An X user said 18 bodies had been recovered, while three persons were rescued. This information is yet to be officially corroborated.
