Sky Sports journalist reveals Olympiacos chances of signing Antony from Man United
In recent days, Olympiacos have emerged as a potential destination for Manchester United winger Antony who’s struggling for form and playing time.
The Brazilian was one of the first players to join Erik ten Hag’s project at Carrington, reconnecting with the Dutch manager following their time together at Ajax. But while his arrival cost the Premier League giants circa £86 million, the 24-year-old fell well below the expectations.
Antony never truly managed to deliver the goods under his mentor during their two-plus years together at Old Trafford. And with Ruben Amorim now implementing a 3-4-2-1 formation, he’s unlikely to make his breakthrough under the Portuguese manager, especially with Amad Diallo emerging as a pillar on the right side of the attacking trident.
Therefore, a divorce could be the ideal solution for the two parties. But while the winger is holding out for a top destination, Olympiakos might be the only one at his doorstep, at least for the time being.
Antony unlikely to leave Man United for Olympiacos
According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Greek giants are trying to sign the underwhelming Man Utd star on loan.
But while Olympiacos’ mission isn’t utterly impossible, the transfer market insider describes it as ‘very complicated’ without specifying the exact reasons. This could be due to the player’s will, as he might not exactly fancy playing his football in the Greek league. Moreover, Man Utd might be hoping to offload the player on a permanent basis, or at least on loan with an obligation to buy.
That being said, Plettenberg insists that Antony could well be heading towards the exit door in January, but it remains to be seen if the right circumstances will occur between now and the end of the month.
