Slain Anambra lawmaker Azuka to be buried this Saturday in Onitsha


…He was a dedicated member of the 8th Anambra Assembly – Udeze

The slain lawmaker representing Onitsha North 1 constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, late Hon Justice Azuka shall be buried on Saturday 15th February 2025 in Onitsha, Onitsha North council area of the state.

The Speaker, Rt Hon Somtochukwu Udeze made the announcement at the resumed plenary of the House held on Tuesday after the lawmakers had held a one minute silence for their departed colleague.

Hon Justice was kidnapped on 24th December 2024 and his decomposing body found along the 2nd Niger Bridge Onitsha on Thursday 6th February 2025.

Rt Hon Udeze while reading Azuka’s burial arrangement as announced by the family, said the deceased shall be buried on Saturday 15/2/25 in Onitsha while a valedictory session shall be held in his honour on Friday 14th February 2025 by 11am at the Hallowed Chambers of the House of Assembly Awka

“On Saturday 15th February 2025, burial mass at St Mary’s Catholic Church Awka Road, Onitsha by 11am. The body will lie at Onitsha Stadium by 10:30am”.

He charged honourable members to attend and be punctual.

Hon Justice Azuka was sworn in on Tuesday 19th December 2023 following his victory at the Appeal Court and only served a year and five days at the 8th Assembly.

Untill his untimely death, he was the chairman House Committee on CSO establishment and Labour Matters as well as Deputy Chairman House Committee on Public Petitions.

“His commitment and dedication to duty was never in doubt and always ready to learn and ready to serve. He was very selfless in service delivery.

“He was part and parcel of the soul of this Hallowed Chambers”, the Speaker said in an emotional laden voice.

Meanwhile, a burial register has been opened at the reception of the Assembly Complex Awka for lawmakers, staff and sympathisers to pen down their tributes
