Snoop Dogg Voices Discomfort Over LGBTQ Representation in Children’s Films

Iconic rapper Snoop Dogg has sparked controversy after expressing discomfort with LGBTQ+ themes in children’s films, particularly citing a portrayal of a same-sex couple in Pixar’s Lightyear.
During an appearance on the It’s Giving podcast, Snoop recounted a trip to the cinema with his grandson, recalling a key scene in Lightyear where a female character is shown raising a child with her wife. In the middle of the film, the young child reportedly asked: “Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!” This moment unsettled him, he said.
“I didn’t come in for this shit. I just came to watch the goddamn movie,” Snoop Dogg said, adding that the experience “f—ed me up.” He described now being “scared to go to the movies,” citing frequent exposure to themes he feels unprepared to discuss with children at that age.
Public reaction has been swift and critical
Many online users labelled his remarks as homophobic and called on the Australian Football League (AFL) to reconsider his scheduled performance at the highly anticipated Grand Final event.
Others pointed out the need for diversity and representation in media, and the importance of these conversations—even for younger audiences.
The Lightyear scene that triggered the fallout had itself courted controversy. It marked a historic first for Pixar—a brief same-sex kiss—and was initially removed by Disney before being restored following internal backlash.
