South Africa tighten grip on Group C, pile pressure on Nigeria

(DDM) – The Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) in Delta State has officially honoured Assistant Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Shaba, for his outstanding performance in policing and engagement with civil society.
The ceremony, held in Effurun, brought together top Senior Advocates of Nigeria, judges, and senior officials of the Nigerian Bar Association from Warri, Udu, and Effurun branches.
The event was described as a rare gathering celebrating the synergy between law enforcement and the legal profession.
ACP Shaba has long been recognised for his commitment to maintaining law and order in Delta State, particularly in crime-prone areas such as Ekpan and Ughelli.
His approach to policing, which balances enforcement with community engagement, has earned him praise from both residents and national law enforcement bodies.
During the award presentation, BOSAN leaders emphasised the importance of acknowledging officers who demonstrate integrity, courage, and dedication in their work.
They noted that recognizing exemplary policing would inspire other officers to adopt similar standards across Nigeria.
As part of the ceremony, a scholarship fund totaling N1 million was presented to support the education of ACP Shaba’s children.
The gesture underscored the community’s appreciation for his service and commitment to family values, and it was received with deep gratitude by the officer and his family.
Speaking at the event, former NBA Presidents Chief Thompson Okpoko and Augustine Alegeh highlighted that such recognition strengthens public trust in law enforcement and motivates officers to perform their duties with professionalism.
They further noted that ACP Shaba’s record sets a benchmark for policing standards nationwide.
Several attendees praised ACP Shaba for innovative initiatives in crime prevention, including community policing programs, youth engagement, and rapid response strategies that have significantly reduced criminal activities in targeted areas.
DDM gathered that the event also served as a networking platform, bringing together legal practitioners and law enforcement officers to discuss collaborative approaches to security and justice in Delta State.
The award is part of a broader initiative by BOSAN to honour individuals who positively impact society, promote accountability, and demonstrate excellence in their respective fields.
ACP Shaba’s recognition is expected to encourage other police officers to engage actively with communities, maintain discipline, and uphold the rule of law.
In his remarks, ACP Shaba thanked the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria for the honour, pledging to continue his service with dedication and professionalism.
He acknowledged the scholarship support and vowed to set an example for other officers by prioritising community safety and ethical policing.
The event concluded with applause, photographs, and renewed calls for cooperation between the legal profession and law enforcement agencies in Delta State, ensuring a safer and more secure environment for all citizens.
