Speaker Abbas Tajudeen presented brand-new official vehicles to four esteemed traditional rulers during a ceremony in Abuja.

The beneficiaries included Etsu Nupe Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, Emir of Ningi Alhaji Haruna Yunusa, Esu Karu Pharm. Luka Panya Baba, and Kur Jibu Bali Alhaji Abubakar Mahmoud.

Speaking passionately, Tajudeen emphasized how this gesture demonstrates the House of Representatives’ commitment to empowering traditional institutions. He praised the monarchs’ pivotal role in preserving culture and maintaining national unity through grassroots leadership.

“This support goes beyond symbolism,” the Speaker declared while handing over the keys. He stressed that properly equipping traditional rulers remains crucial for effective governance, especially in rural communities. The House recently created a Committee on Traditional Institutions to formalize this partnership.

Furthermore, Tajudeen revealed the 2025 national budget includes provisions to extend similar support to other monarchs nationwide. He described this initiative as a legacy project that honors Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage while promoting social cohesion.

The royal fathers expressed gratitude, pledging to utilize the vehicles for community development projects. Etsu Nupe particularly commended the Speaker’s foresight in bridging modern governance with traditional values. The event concluded with mutual commitments to strengthen collaboration between legislative and traditional institutions.

This landmark initiative sets a precedent for recognizing traditional rulers’ contributions to national development. It also reaffirms the 10th Assembly’s dedication to inclusive governance that respects Nigeria’s diverse cultural tapestry. As the vehicles were driven away, observers noted this symbolic act could inspire similar recognition of traditional institutions across Africa.
