Stop Criticising Leaders, Provide Solutions — Pastor Adeboye Warns Nigerians

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar met with United States Ambassador Richard Mills Jr. in Abuja on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

The meeting focused on Nigeria’s partnership with the U.S., especially in democracy, security, and prosperity.

Atiku shared the update on his official Facebook page, posting photos from the courtesy visit.

He said the discussion highlighted how both countries could strengthen cooperation in key areas.

“This afternoon, I had the honour of leading a delegation on a courtesy visit to the U.S. Ambassador, Richard Mills Jr., in Abuja. Our discussion focused on advancing democracy, improving security, and promoting shared prosperity,” he wrote.

During the visit, Atiku condemned tribalism in Nigerian politics.

He described it as a malignant disease that has slowed national progress.

According to him, the elite are the worst offenders, often using ethnic sentiment to divide the masses for political gain. He urged Nigerians to reject leaders who campaign on ethnic lines instead of competence.

“The only factor that should guide your vote is competence. Focus on antecedents and qualities, not tribe. Do not allow anyone to deceive you into voting against a candidate simply because of his ethnic background,” Atiku told Nigerians.

Atiku, now a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a 2027 presidential hopeful, called on the electorate to embrace unity and vote their conscience.

He emphasized that tribalism has been weaponized for decades and must be discarded if the nation is to progress.

However, his comments drew sharp criticism from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party dismissed his recent warnings about hunger and insecurity, describing them as reckless and misleading.

APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka accused Atiku of trying to incite unrest.

He said the former Vice President and his party failed to address hunger and insecurity during their 16 years in power despite abundant oil revenues.

“His statement is reckless, irresponsible, and unbecoming of a former Vice President.

Atiku and the PDP had every opportunity to fight poverty and insecurity but failed woefully,” Morka said.

He added that Nigerians will see through Atiku’s words and continue supporting President Tinubu’s reforms.

Morka further claimed Atiku rarely resides in Nigeria and would not face the consequences of any unrest his words might trigger.

He called on citizens to remain patient with Tinubu’s government as it pushes policies aimed at stabilizing the economy and ensuring long-term prosperity.

The clash between Atiku and the APC highlights the widening political tension ahead of the 2027 elections.

With tribalism, hunger, and insecurity dominating conversations, Nigerians are watching how political leaders address these pressing issues.
