Sultan of Sokoto announces start of Zulki’da 1446AH

Sokoto, Nigeria – The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has officially declared Tuesday, April 29, 2025, as the first day of Zulki’da 1446AH. This announcement followed the completion of Shawwal and careful moon-sighting procedures.

Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Sultanate Council’s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, confirmed the decision in a public statement. He explained that no verified sightings of the new moon were reported on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

Consequently, Monday, April 28, 2025, will serve as the 30th day of Shawwal, while Tuesday marks the beginning of Zulki’da. The Sultan emphasized the importance of accurate lunar observation in maintaining Islamic traditions.

Additionally, the Sultan urged the Muslim community to pray for Nigeria’s peace, unity, and prosperity. He reiterated the role of faith in fostering national harmony and encouraged spiritual reflection during the new month.
