Super Falcons’ Ifeoma Onumonu Announces Retirement at 31

Forward Ifeoma Onumonu, a key member of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, has announced her retirement from professional football at age 31.
She disclosed the decision in an Instagram post, writing:
“It is with a heart full of gratitude that I bid farewell to my playing career on the pitch.”
Onumonu’s decorated career included winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with Nigeria, clinching the NWSL Championship with Gotham FC, and representing her country at both the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Olympics.
Born in the United States but eligible for Nigeria, she played for several top clubs in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) before moving to Montpellier in France.
Her retirement marks the end of a remarkable era in Nigerian women’s football, as Onumonu transitions from the pitch to whatever path she chooses next.
