Tinubu Orders FEC Committee to Slash Food Prices Amid Soaring Costs

President Bola Tinubu has directed a Federal Executive Council (FEC) committee to urgently implement measures aimed at reducing the escalating cost of food across the nation, according to Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security.

Speaking at a Senate correspondents’ workshop in Abuja, Abdullahi clarified that the directive focuses primarily on ensuring the safe and smooth transportation of agricultural produce across Nigeria—aimed at reducing logistics costs that have driven food prices up.

The committee’s tasks go beyond logistics. New initiatives, including a Farmer Soil Health Scheme and reforms to agricultural cooperatives, are also being rolled out to boost productivity and empower rural farmers.

These measures fall within Tinubu’s broader “food sovereignty” agenda—ensuring not just the availability of food but its affordability, accessibility, and nutritional value for all Nigerians.
